X-Rays

Benefits of Digital Radiology

We pride ourselves in providing your pet with the highest quality digital radiography on the market! Because we use digital radiography, we are able to quickly produce high quality diagnostic images of your pet. Once the x-ray is taken it appears on the computer screen within seconds. By eliminating the use of traditional film we can quickly repeat shots, adjust angles, and send images to referral facilities or radiological specialists for further evaluation.

Why does my pet need x-rays?

Radiographs (X-rays) allow our doctors to see tissues, organs and bones. We may recommend X-rays for your pet for many different reasons.

Bones and Joints
X-rays are an important way to evaluate lameness and pain. They help us see fractures, inflamed joints, arthritis, and more

Abdomen
Abdominal X-rays can help us diagnose issues related to GI upset, weight loss, or see if your pet has ingested a foreign object. Your pet's doctor might even recommend X-rays if abnormalities are noted on bloodwork.

Chest
If your pet is having difficulty breathing, chronic coughing, or has a heart murmur we may recommending chest X-rays to get a better look at the heart and lungs.

Dental
We also include dental radiographs with our dental procedures. About 60% of each tooth is hidden below the gum line, so these special radiographs allow us to see hidden oral disease such as bone loss, abscesses and fractured roots.

Ultrasound

What is ultrasound?

Ultrasound is a minimally invasive tool that uses sound waves to painlessly allow us to view your pet's internal organs. Your pet's doctor may recommend an ultrasound due to abnormalities found on physical exam, or if signs of internal issues are seen on bloodwork.

We work closely with a traveling ultrasonographer who comes to Animal Care Veterinary Hospital to see your pet! If your pet's doctor recommends an ultrasound appointment our staff will take care of the scheduling for you.

How are ultrasound & x-rays different?

Ultrasound and x-ray are often the perfect complements to each other. X-rays can give us the big picture showing the size and shape of the organs. While ultrasound allows us to look on the inside of specific organs.
